Hello everyone,
Today, I'm excited to share with you a little blog post on copywriting, a skill that currently occupies all my attention and my mind. I'm really into learning and I find it so incredible that I have to share some information with you about it.
First, we will see "what is copywriting?", then "Why is it an ultra-powerful skill that brings incredible value to businesses? ", then I will share some tips that I have already learned on the subject as well as resources to deepen your knowledge.
Without further ado, let's attack!
Disclaimer: I am not (yet?) a copywriter, and as such, I only share my learning through this blog post. Some information may therefore be incorrect.
What is copywriting?
Copywriting is the art of writing texts intended to convince and persuade the reader or consumer to take a specific action, whether it is buying a product, buying a product, or buying a product. subscribe to a newsletter, make a donation, etc. A copywriter presents himself as a salesman who, accompanied by his keyboard, uses human psychology and refined writing techniques to persuade a client. Classy, right?
Why is it super powerful and useful for businesses?
Simply because this skill helps increase the conversion rate! The rate of what? Conversion; in short, it is the percentage of visitors who complete the action desired by the company, whether it is a purchase, a registration, or any other valued interaction. For example, if out of 100 visitors to your website, 10 make a purchase, then your conversion rate will be 10%.
But beyond the conversion rate, copywriting also allows you to build and refine a company's brand image. Good copywriting reflects the company's personality, values and unique value proposition. It serves to forge an emotional connection with consumers, adding a human depth to the interaction that goes well beyond a simple commercial transaction.
To perfect this skill, it is important to deeply analyze and understand your target. By putting yourself in the consumer's place, we are able to create messages that really resonate with them, by evoking specific emotions and needs, which, ultimately, increases the chances of conversion.
But make no mistake, copywriting is not just for sales pages or advertisements. It is present everywhere: in emails, on social networks, in blog articles, and even in videos. Copywriting is the art of communicating effectively and persuasively, whatever the medium.
And the beauty of this art is that it is constantly evolving. With the emergence of new technologies and social media, copywriters must constantly adapt and innovate, making copywriting a living and dynamic skill, essential for any company wishing to shine and succeed in today's competitive landscape.
So, investing in quality copywriting skills is not just a smart strategy, it's a necessity for any business looking to stand out and build a lasting relationship and authentic with its customers. It is the foundation of all successful communication, the engine that transforms simple visitors into loyal and engaged customers.
Some tips that I have already discovered
In my first steps towards mastering copywriting, I have already found a few little tips that I am proud to present to you.
First, what you need to know is that the title of your text has the role of attracting attention. Without a good title, no one will read the text that follows it. Considerable effort must be devoted to the title in order to successfully arouse action and/or curiosity in your reader. The title can also be used to target a specific audience, ideally our typical prospect. In order to write a good title, there are several questions to ask yourself:
Questions to ask yourself before writing the title:
Who is my customer?
What are the important features of the product?
What features do competing products not have?
Why would the customer want to buy the product? (Which product feature offers the most important benefit to it?)
In short, you need to do some research beforehand. And the search can take a LOT of time. Once the research phase has been completed, you can attempt to write several titles using the 4 U formula.
The 4 U formula:
Urgent: give a reason to act now rather than later.
Unique: provide a fresh perspective or new information.
Ultra specific: talk about ultra-specific points that encourage the reader to read more and order the product.
Useful: offer a benefit or solution to a problem.
You can then try to self-evaluate your headline attempts based on these 4 points.
Then regarding what follows the title, i.e. the text, there are several things to know. The text must, generally speaking, fulfill certain roles:
Attract attention
Communicate (tell a story, etc.)
Persuade (Desire, promise, offer, guarantee, etc.)
Call to Action (CTA)
And in order to write a text that fulfills its mission we can use the 4S method.
The 4 S formula:
Short words : We use simple and short words. No need to come out with "unconstitutionally"
Short sentences : Short sentences
Short paragraphs: Short paragraphs
Short sections : And finally, short sections
For the moment I am not going to share more techniques, it is already more than enough and it gives a first overview of the things I have learned.
My learning and my next steps
Regarding my learning I am currently devouring "The copywriter's handbook" by Robert W. Bly and I binge watch the YouTube channel "Copy That!".
At the same time I have also prepared my next readings which will be:
Scientific Advertising (Claude C. Hopkins)
Great Leads (Michael Masterson & John Forde)
The Boron Letters (Gary Halbert & Bond Halbert)
The Robert Collier Letterbook (Robert Collier)
The wizard of ads trilogy (Roy H. Williams)
Breakthrough Advertising (Eugene Schwartz) => A book for the more advanced. So I'll probably save it for last.
There is still a long way to go but I look forward to learning more about this fascinating field!
Conclusion
So, are you ready to embark on this copywriting adventure with me? I am convinced that this skill is essential for anyone who wants to succeed in our digital world. And don't forget, there is still time to learn this key skill in 2023!I strongly encourage you to dive into the fascinating world of copywriting, to learn and above all to experiment.
